Honoring those who served

It was decided prior to the reunion that it would be nice to have a plaque on the boat honoring those who served on the boat. Seems there are restrictions to putting items on museum pieces. Many e-mails and phone calls we got permission to put such a plaque on board. A second plaque for the museum in the Becuna section, was authorized by the museum director.

The wording for the plaque was mostly done by Captain Anderson. The plaques were made and shipped to Philly and the finished product is pictured below.

Reunion Synopsis
October 14-17, 2010

Dear Shipmate:

Becuna Reunion for 2010 Groton, Connecticut

I heard remarks that this was the best reunion ever. Myself I enjoyed the ones at Philly because I really enjoyed seeing the old boat again. This may not be possible in the future because the Museum has some financial difficulties. There was some talk that a city in Florida was interested in the Becuna but it is real iffy.

Many enjoyed the sub school tour and this time we were able to go to the mess hall for a fine meal. There was a weapons range that we all were able to try. Shooting at terrorists with a 9mm Beretta but the range is capable to adapt to many other weapons. We visited a trainer for Pilot & Co-pilot, just were told capabilities but not a live driving experience. We got to see the new Escape tank, only 35 ft deep.

The head count acording to my calculation were 55 guests and shipmates, however Hog Harden left before the banquet because of rude & noisy behavor from next room and a management conflict.

The food was good and there was plenty of it. Many went back for seconds. Nick Salaki was the first in line and I wasn't far behind.

I missed a lot of the regulars, Capone, Captain Flood, Gudis just to mention a few. Koslowski's widow attended

Vam Maggipinto is the historian now and he is currently digitising Captain Andersons journal.

The winner of the 50/50 drawing Was Loretta Beeck and she donated the winnings to the Becuna fund. The free room was won by Kark Snyder.
